One of the great facets of Soundgarden is that if you don't like one of their songs at first, it will eventually grow on you.
In my experience I thought Tighter & Tighter was sort of an average song with nothing special. It didn't take until 1 or 2 years until I realized its brilliance. Songs like Head Down, Somewhere, and Holy Water also had this effect.

I remember years ago,my ex gf really liked Pearl Jam (yuck) and she used to tell me how she loved TDITTL......and i would tell myself, "that song is ehhh".... Now i feel like its a great song....n live, fuggedaboudit. Last time i saw SG live that song was one of the highlights. She Likes Surprises...Come Together....Earache My Eye....are a few that come to mind.

^ Nice thread. Getting old these days, but I think I first heard something off of Louder than Love. Just before Nirvana's Nevermind hit the shelves and the revolution hit. My buddy's friend was a DJ at a college and had the record/cassette. Didn't pay much mind to it. <~ ::puts dunce cone on own head:: Lol. Then a year later 1992 the Seattle lads were worldwide and all I spun was PJ, AIC, SG and Nirvana. The four horsemen of music back then. Wish I would've caught on sooner, but we were into The cure, Replacements, REM, Jane's, Metallica and hair stuff then. It's amazing how the Seattle groups were underground for essentially 4 yrs or so. So I'd say Outshined, Rusty Cage, Hungerstrike, and Uncovered were the initial tunes in a brutha's SG music venture. Ah yeah babe Edit: Kinda misread the thread and starting babbling away. I wasn't wild about New Damage in the beginning. Usually would skip over it. Even today Chris hits that one vocally live quite well. It must be a tune in his wheelhouse that he'll be able to sing when he's 90. Back then Black Hole Sun i thought/still do was a fine song, but just overplayed.

It is really special when you suddenly discover the greatness of a song which you had not given enough credit for, or a song that took a bit longer to fully appreciate. It is like discovering a hidden gem from the past or a bit like hearing new music for the first time.
Not a song... but I probably didn't give DOTUS enough credit as a whole album. Don't get me wrong - I have always loved this album but I would tend to skip certain tracks and not appreciate the album as a whole package. Generally I like to listen to music as a whole rather than bits and pieces.... so over time I have really appreciated the whole album a lot more.
Great thread by the way!

He Didn't comes to mind. I wasn't too fond of it but one day while listening to it I had a moment where something clicked. It really does take a few listens to appreciate it. I tend to overlook New Damage for some reason. It's not necessarily a song that took a while to grow on me....just that I forget what a wicked tune it is. Little Joe is another one I didn't pay much attention to. But there's a live version from London '92 I came across one day that changed my mind. Another one is Never Named....took a while with that one too. It's a cool little ditty.

For me it was Jesus Christ Pose. I always skipped past that one when playing the CD. Crazy how much I actually like it now.

And as it has already been said... Brutal depression simplified.
