So as a lot of you probably already know, AiC have a new record out. I'm listening to the previews right now. It sounds pretty promising. However, I'm pretty ambivalent about the Layne-less band in general. This album sounds like more of the same. New AiC have never really sounded to me like they're trying to evolve their sound or anything. Of course, this also means that they're still going to write kickass riffs and do cool vocal harmonies. This album sounds more interesting to me than what I remember of Devil Put Dinosaurs Here or Black Gives Way to Blue, but I may have just become less picky about music than I was when those came out.
Anyway, I didn't really create this thread to give my opinion since I haven't even listened to the full album and probably won't be buying it. I just haven't been on here in a while and figured it might be nice to get a discussion going here since these forums seem so depressed now, and I know there is a lot of overlap between the AiC fanbase and the Soundgarden fanbase. Those of you who have listened to the new AiC, what did you think?
Maybe we can even discuss new music from other artists. Obviously, this place is never going to be what it used to be, but if we can just make it a little less dead, I think that would be kind of nice.

Well, Duvall has cool hair for starters When I first heard So far Under, imagine Layne singing that one. My fave of the ones I've listened to. Kind of harks back to the Facelift album sound. I think duval plays the lead and wrote the tune. Never fade was written as an ode to Chris. It starts with the chorus, wasn't wild about how it kicks in to the verses, but it's grown on me. Besides, they had C in mind when it was written. That sista in the The one you Know video Drone is also another high light on the album. Not sure if it tops the previous two with Duvall, but the AIC boys delivered another solid record.

Been spinning Drone off the record, digging it much more now. Nice little riffage. I like the lyrics too. Rainier Fog is up for a Grammy. I don't know how many other AIC albums have been in Grammy consideration, but surprising this one is. Although JC has always been a good songwriter.
