What are people's thoughts?
Was enough recorded? (Was anything?)
Will it be too emotionally raw for the other members?
I've said it before, but Chris helped oversee the release of Jeff Buckley's posthumous LP Sketches Fort My Sweetheart The Drunk, which somehow makes me feel like he could see the value of putting out material from someone who'd suffered an untimely demise.
Soundgarden have returned into my heavy rotation schedule (a few bands come around in cycles annually for me, where I play them non stop, and Soundgarden are back on top right now)!

It's tough getting your head round. I still can't believe it really, and it's just so so sad....
In that interview, Kim says"there's some songs that have been demoed. I think Matt's demoed some things completely, stuff he's recorded on his computer. Chris has demoed a few things. He's written lyrics for ideas that I've written and that Ben and Matt have written. There's some things that have been documented in rehearsal".
Sounds like there could actually be quite a lot of recorded material, just not in the standard "album sessions" format. And that in itself is something to hold on to.
Plus all the other unreleased stuff that he mentions "There are a number of recordings sessions that were never released for various reasons...some we recorded with a previous drummer and they weren't really up to our satisfaction. There's stuff we haven't released that we recorded with (producer) Jack Endino that were intended for Sub Pop release that didn't happen. The Screaming Life EP was supposed to be a full-length album but Sub Pop wanted to do an EP, so there's material that was recorded for that. We've been able to address many of the aspects from our catalog, both released and unreleased, and I think we will continue to do so."

Personally I don’t think we will ever see/hear anything from the ‘next album’ as a full package or album format as such... maybe the odd song or demo released in years to come or a band members song ideas & instrumentals being used for another project/solo album etc... I really hope I’m wrong! I don’t mind what stage the music is at, I would love to hear everything from ideas to demos, rough recordings, instrumentals, unrecorded lyrics... what ever is there I hope one day is released! Preferably in a mutipart album format with completed ideas and demos and lyrics booklet including unrecorded ideas for the album... but I’ll take whatever is offered in any format assuming it ever happens! It makes it even harder knowing that they were in the middle of making new music... not just because I selfishly wanted to hear the music but because it keeps reminding you of all the creativity that was lost with Chris’ death. I always wonder where was Soundgarden going to take us next with a new album and no doubt a new direction. It would have been interesting to have the album recording procress documented on film but that would been a hard thing to watch now and who knows how far things had progressed. By the way that just reminded me about the planned Soundgarden documentary that ended up falling through but was going to be replaced with a Chris Cornell documentary... I wonder if we will ever see this or whether it was just in the planning phase.

Sadly, I don't think we will hear anything either. When Chris died, they said they were about halfway done but nothing had been recorded yet. So, I guess halfway done just means writing/composing. Very, very disappointing but seems to be just the way it is...

I'm hopeful that we will. Chris was really positive about the band, they were working on new material, and Kim said there are recordings: demos, and things that were documented in rehearsals. When a band is practising new stuff, they'll play it over and over again to get it tight/ all the parts right/ arrangement. It's very possible they recorded some of these rehearsals (Kim essentially says this when he says they have "some things that have been documented in rehearsal"). These will (I imagine) have been recorded properly (not just with a tape recorded like the old days), so could very likely be great quality. I think it's more likely to be when than if. I think it could be cathartic for them. However, they could well just be left. It's not like they have anything to prove. They released an amazing body of work whilst Chris was alive, so they might feel "why tarnish it with unfinished elements". Or, they might finish parts and reconvene as a band to do that in Chris' memory. They certainly weren't averse to releasing demos (King Animal Demos) and rarities... And remember, demos can sound like this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qkxtfaS8gM

I think Chris had mentioned when someone asked him how far along the album was, he mentioned something like "i havent even laid down vocals yet" ..... I think that was around a time when i recall someone from the band making it sound like they were half way done. .....who knows what they have in the vault. It was a few years since King Animal was released so in that time hopefully a few things got recorded. Hopefully something exists for us to hear someday. Im sure Chris had tuns of recordings over the years....Im pretty sure some of that stuff will get released. We can only hope. Im still hoping to one day get a official recording from the Superunkown tour. We need more live stuff from the 90's. it would be nice if the band members would say something about future plans pretaining to SG music for their fans sake.

Thanks for this! I'm hopeful! I'd also like to see the Echoes Of Miles (Originals) on a single vinyl LP. I'm sure I'd read Kim saying somewhere that that was a plan too but I can't find that article anywhere now... Maybe we will hear some of these recordings.

They from what ive heard have six good demos from unfinished album they were working on. I think they will eventionaly be released. Im glad they didnt rush to release new material soon after his death so they werent viewed as cashing in on it. But i think enough time has passed now and they should release what they have
