Didn't the coroner say he died from hanging?

Yes, but toxicology still needs to come in.
Suicide never made sense to me. Not that this is better, it's still very surprising. But, I just couldn't understand how he'd purposely leave his kids. So maybe it wasn't on purpose, afterall.

Did anyone else attend TOTD Philadelphia, November 4, 2016? He seemed impaired to me or at least different from how he was during the other concerts I attended starting in early 2013. I was concerned and even prayed for him over it, all the while hoping I was misreading him.
If the track marks news is accurate then it is possible we are talking about a return to addiction that started earlier than we think. It makes my heart sink to think about that sort of struggle in one's life. When we thought it was just anxiety and a poorly chosen prescription that was bad enough. If true, I can't help but wonder what led to a return to drug use.
I don't know the first thing about it. Do people just start using because it's fun or their friends are doing it, or does something have to be wrong on the inside to start up? I don't need an answer to that, but in CC's case I have trouble viewing it as a fun way to pass the time.
I can't even look at an exercise band or watch TV or listen to the radio. I posted a vocals only BHS on another thread without listening to it. I have not played a single song of any sort since the day we heard the news, and I only saw two bands of 50-60 at the festival where Soundgarden were scheduled.
This thread was aptly titled, and I know I won't always be this way, but he was my Michael Jackson or Prince so it could be a while. I say that because most in my life don't get why I have shed tears for a man I never met. Even my mom who is the sweetest person in the world gave me a hard time about it. The only thing I have been able to say to help them gain an inkling of understanding is that he was my Michael Jackson or Prince. Then they leave me alone.

He was way more then Michael Jackson and Prince put together. I know that people don't understand why we're so upset because we didn't actually know him. But I cried and cried and cried like he was a close friend. Fortunately, my family totally understands.
Speaking of moms... my mom ordered me 5 Chris shirts because she didn't like seeing me so upset. I kid you not.

I hope everyone can take heart and remember what we don't know for certain, which--beyond his awful death, and some of the manner--is almost everything.
Ever notice items on gossip sites are almost never credited?
Video of that last concert was helpful, as to some degree it spoke for itself. I'll read a police report or a news piece from a credible outlet tied to a specific reporter. Because there will generally be some public accountability if they get it wrong.
I'm not ready to bounce my heart around because someone I have no reason to believe or disbelieve says something to someone. I'm not gonna' pass it along.
I saw SG two weeks ago, TotD in the fall, and CC solo in June--up close x 3--and he was as clear as a bell. I plan to think of him that way as long as I possibly can.

I'm still in a state of disbelief. Been listening to Soundgarden a lot lately, and thinking back to when I saw the band in 2015. The show was absolutely fantastic, and I managed to get up close, in front of Ben. I remember getting in line early, and listening to them soundcheck Ugly Truth and Kyle Petty, which was really exciting! When the band came onstage and opened with Incessant Mace, I knew the gig was going to be a really special experience. Seeing and hearing them play the songs that changed my life was amazing. They had so much energy and intensity... I just got swept up in it all. I'm just so grateful that they came down to Australia.
Also, been thinking back to the time before King Animal was announced and released. What a brilliantly exciting time that was for us! I can still remember everyone going crazy over that teaser video with Worse Dreams in it, and then the other clip with Rowing and Black Saturday combined, back on the first Soundgarden forum. Hearing the preview of Been Away Too Long for the first time was awesome, couldn't believe that a new record was on its way! I can still recall going down to the record shop, buying the CD, and then loving it on first listen. I was obsessed with it!
I am still absolutely heartbroken for his family, friends, Matt, Kim and Ben. I hope they've been met with unwavering support and love. Hope you guys are doing ok too. Planning on getting SG records on vinyl, and playing it loud for Chris.

Still really gutted about it...feel I took him for granted by not going to enough shows and in general he wasn't appreciated enough for the talent he had....suicide is just so sad as sometimes these black thoughts can pass just as fast....

Im never recovering from this one. ... It's one of those things where "it is what it is". Man, out of any musician to lose, for it to be Cornell....Its just wrong. He was just on another level....It still hasnt fully sunk in for me. He had so much good music left to give....for years and years. Im sure Soundgarden had a couple albums left...Audioslave wouldve most likely ended up putting some music together....There wouldve been all sorts of collabs down the road....and he wouldve been rocking solo for the next 20 years..... I just hope they had recorded enough stuff for this latest SG record, that something comes out of it....and you know Cornell was probably constantly recording in his home studio so hopefully some of that music see's the light of day. There has to be tons of material stashed away somewhere. His career was incredible as it was but there was SO MUCH MORE left... He was on a roll of putting out great music....Scream, that has to be one of the most under rated albums of all time. I get it wasn't everyones cup of tea, but it was one solid track after another pretty much start to finish....Then he dropped songbook...King Animal...Higher Truth which is fantastic...great movie soundtracks thrown in there....Everything he was putting out was top shelf. ....I just cant believe he's been silenced.... Unbelievable

Yeah.....I cant think of an album that was so good yet bashed like that.... I had made a post about this in the old forum......Every single person that i played that album for WHO WASNT FAMILIAR WITH CORNELL loved it. Im talking from 60+ year old suburban parents, to late teen to mid 20's aged girls of all races....to 45 year old black street guys from harlem to my ex who was a colombian in her late 30's at the time..To my other friends that are just casual music listeners....Every single person i played it for LIKED it. I would just play it and have people ASKING ME "who is that" .....That was the "real world" test... Every single freakin demographic liked it. Only people flipping were the rock fans....and critics, many of whom are hipsters and jerk offs. .....and for a rock guy like Cornell to make an album like that in a completely different genre that such a wide variety of people liked, it shows his talent. The brothers up in harlem, they liked the music....but it was the voice that sealed the deal. They heard Cornell, they knew the brother had soul. That album is awesome. Now i get why people bashed it....cause it isnt there thing....but the fact that it isnt there thing doesn't make it bad. That was an awesome album. One track after another...No filler....Not only wasnt there any filler, he threw in Two Drink Minimum on top of it. I dont know about reviews.....I know what i saw in the real world...and they gave it an "A".
