Four years ago today - Live on I-5
Adam Kasper was hired to record several shows with a rented 24-track machine/truck, during the West Coast leg of their 1996 tour. They planned to release the live album after the tour, but Soundgarden disbanded and the tapes were left in Studio X (now Bad Animals Studio). The title of the album is a reference to the Interstate 5 Highway, which runs along the Pacific coast of the United States.
This release is yet another reason to be thankful that Soundgarden have reunited and are happily playing and making new music.
All lucky knights please share your experience of this tour.

This was a rough sounding album at points. Chris sounded like he was lit on some songs hahaha.

Hate to say it, but Live on I-5 was a pretty big disappointment for me. Cornell sounded pretty rough more often than not during the Down on the Upside era and it definitely showed here. I like the Hyde Park DVD, and I think it's the best live release they've ever put out, but I think the ultimate live Soundgarden release still eludes us.

I was thinking about starting a thread the other day for Live On i5. Reason being i had misplacedit and hadnt listened to it in over a year. A couple weeks ago i was in Best Buy and they had the SG cd pack...LTL-DOTU + Live on i5. 5 CD'S for something like 20 bucks. How times have changed.
It definitely isnt their optimum period, basically due to the vocals....but after revisiting it after not hearing it in a long time, there are some real good tracks on there. Searching is pretty awesome. So is Dusty...FOBD...Helter Skelter...Search and Destroy, Let Me Drown...etc....Alot of good stuff on there. BHS sounds good....JCP, Cornell is sounding ferocious.... and the usual heavy suspects, Outshined,Spoonman,Rusty Cage, Slaves....they have their moments.
and the Soundcheck tracks are all GREAT.
............................................
To me,its a shame....Its actually kinda of ridiculous considering how otherwordly Cornell was during BMF n SU that there isnt any quality live release from that era. During SU, (others willl say BMF...but for me its the Cornell of 94-95...plus the added material to boot) Cornell was in inhuman beast mode. There has to be documentation of this for release. Something from 92-95 shouldve been out there long ago. Theres like absolutely nothing... There has to be this stuff in the archives.

The infamous Calgary 1994 show (clip from the "Hype" documentary)... And Kickstand from the Alive in the Superunknown CD-ROM doohickey (from the same show)... The rest of the footage from this show has been sitting on a shelf somewhere collecting dust for the last 21 years. The rest needs to be uncovered and put out there...

Thanks for posting the videos. I embedded them into your post - hope you don't mind. When posting youtube videos if you click the "Insert Video" button it embeds the actual video into the post rather than just the link.

There would be some knights willing to pay to own some of that dust! I would love to know what else is on that shelf.... and offer my services as a duster! I'm sure there are more worthy B-Sides and unreleased tracks which have not seen the light of day.

Just for the sake of completeness, the official My Wave video, which also contains footage from this show:
I wish I knew who to pester about this... there's no telling who actually owns, or at least has physical possession of the footage. Might be something for us to try and research. I wouldn't really know where to start though. Maybe try to contact the makers of Hype?

Another pro-shot '94 show I just remembered... this one from Japan
To the best of my knowledge this is all that has surfaced from this show.

lol... last one, I swear:
From the UK's Top of the Pops. Not sure where the concert actually took place though. Video sadly cuts out just as Kim is about to go apeshit on that solo.
So, yeah, live stuff from that era exists... sadly, it's just not available to us.

Just think all the stuff that gotta be in the vaults....and on the SHELF. rehersals, different takes on songs, never heard stuff....live stuff..demos...etc etc....
and for me, the main thing about all that stuff is Cornells vocals....Ofcourse its the entire SG package, but his vocals from that "era" are just ..on a completely different level from anything that came before or since. Theres nothing even comparable to Cornell of that era. That voice had everthing.....masculinity, depth, range, power, ferocity....You just listen to it n say "holy shit". No other rock singer ive ever listened to ever made me tell myself "holy shit")......and to top it off, the music he was singing over to was perfection. On the SU box set, the demos were a cool add in just to see how the songs were conceived.... The rehersals were an awesome addition....but they leave you wanting more. They just dont sound as good as live versions.
I think Fresh Tendrils and My Wave sound freakin good, but in general its not like a live setting. Theres so much more stuff that has do be out there, i just dont understand why they wouldnt release it. its not ordinary music...its historically good. Put it out there.
I wish someone that went to one of these meet n greets that come up every now and then would ask about that stuff...
