It has been 5 years since Soundgarden reunited and almost 2 1/2 years since Soundgarden released King Animal. If you haven't listened to the album in a while, maybe it is time to give it a spin and share your thoughts. I remember the anticipation was fever high and the curiosity of where Soundgarden would go next was quite debilitating. Hopefully we will have more news to discuss soon but in the meantime lets reflect on the past. So how do you feel about King Animal now - has you love of the album grown or fallen? What are your favourite tracks and why? I know it is very hard to rank Soundgarden songs (as favourites are always changing), but If you have the chance then rank your current favourite to least favourite songs from King Animal. To make it easier here is the track list. Been Away Too Long Non-State Actor By Crooked Steps A Thousand Days Before Blood On The Valley Floor Bones Of Birds Taree Attrition Black Saturday Halfway There Worse Dreams Eyelid's Mouth Rowing

the last 4 songs seemed to be the best at the time (even though some hated on halfway there, i liked it), but honestly I havent listened to it much lately. Will need to put this in the car on my next road trip!

Will need to put this in the car on my next road trip! After digesting a new album with headphones, my favourite way to listen to an album is on a road trip! I prefer the Halfway There demo with the lower key vocals. Not so keen on the album version though.

i havent listened to it in a while....
I like the first half of the album up to Taree much better than the 2nd half, aside from Rowing which ireally like.
Favorite tracks are Non State Actor,Taree,BOTVL,BCS, BOB and Rowing....
What i liked best about the album was that it had that Soundgarden sound. The style of the songs i mentioned pretty much sounded just like i wouldve hoped for them to sound. Those songs sound like they were made by the same group that made Spoonman,LimoWreck,Outshined etc...
its definitely a solid album...A real good album....but that being said ,for me personally too many of the songs that i liked had lil parts within them that i didnt like. .....and i thought the album was too slow. The first 3 tracks are uptempo and everything after that for the most part is on the slow side.
After all, its SG.. A musical brute force.....you would expect somewhere in the last 3/4 of an album that they would come at you hard, heavy.and with aggression.
n i like that fact that Matt said in that one interview something to the affect of how he would like "more guitars" when describing what he would like in a next SG album....and he said with an expression as if to say "i want us to bring it" I cant wait for the next one.

I still love it. I don't think it's as perfect as DOTU or SU, but there's some really great songs on there. It's not some rushed, half-assed album that bands put out when they reunite, it's like a natural progression from where they left off. I remember being so excited when it was announced, couldn't believe that a new album was arriving! Hearing BATL and all the song snippets for the first time was so cool.
I can't wait to hear what they'll come up with for the next album, whatever they'll do, I'm sure it's gonna be awesome!

Remember this: I never thought Soundgarden would actually reunite, let alone make an album.... turned out to be a great album too! I hope they release the song by song behind the scenes videos for the next album. Infact I would love to see a proper making of the album DVD.

Definitely a good comeback album but probably not quite on the level of their previous ones. Now that I've been listening to it for the 2 years it has been out it just has become somehow bland and empty to me, while the previous ones really seemed like that they had managed to create clear and purposeful atmospheres to each of the records. I don't know, I just don't hear that on KA, though I can't really pinpoint what's missing.

To be honest, I haven't listened to KA in a while. I still listen to the older albums more often. But, when I do feel like hearing something from KA it's usually the same few songs that I enjoyed from the moment I heard the first snippets and teasers. BOTVF, Taree, ATDB, NSA, Crooked Steps...those are my favourites. KA is a great album and for a comeback album it did not disappoint. I'll have to give it a spin soon

Soundgarden albums have always had a tendency to challenge me to listen to them a few times before I could really say what I thought about them--King Animal was no different. Now that the newness has been well worn off, I can honestly say that I think it's an excellent album that did not get the recognition it deserved. I don't think I can go a week with wanting to hear A Thousand Days Before. After that, I still listen to Black Saturday and Rowing quite often as well. Only Attrition and Halfway There get skipped sometimes (the demo of Halfway There is better than the album version). Overall I think it was a worth follow-up to Down on the Upside. I wish more KA songs got setlist love in their recent concerts.

I haven't spun KA in a bit, but it is up in the whip (car) Gotta scoot out for a few, so maybe ill throw it on the deck. It's a solid good album, but I dunno if i could pick one clear fave on it. I like Black Saturday, but not the interlude thingy, Lol. Lyrically, Atrrition... might just like that one the most for the lyrics. Atdb is another nice one.. words and music. Chris vocally I like on Eyelid's. but the chorus bogs down a bit. But the ending fade out I dig. Kim going off on the left speaker (like Mailman) and Chris backing it up on the right. It's as Glam as Soundgarden will get Botvf brings the SG riffage. Ah yeah babe. Those 5 songs I probably listen to most i spose. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iyv4le1ap8
