Let's talk lyrics! Share some of your favourites.... and if you would like to elaborate then discuss what they mean to you, what you think they might mean or simply why they are favourites? If you like you can get all nostalgic with memories or start an argument on what the lyrics are meant to mean! It can be Soundgarden, Chris solo, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog etc... It doesn't have to be limited to just one (as many as you like!) and it can be 1 tiny snippet or a big chunk of a song.

"I caught the moon today Pick it up And throw it away all right"
This is from my fav SG song, which is also my fav song across all genres. I don't know exactly what it means, but I think the guy in the song is jaded in his relationship and wants out, and the moon, being a kinda romantic thing would be something you might want to throw out if you wanted to get away from all love things.
I love the Moonchild lyrics too. I've been in love with the moon for a long time, my whole life really. I need to go to bed so I will maybe talk about this later, but real quick....some of my fav CC lyrics come from these songs....besides Pretty Noose and Moonchild....Switch Opens, Bend in the Road, Like a Stone (this one makes me cry), Live To Rise (while it is not one of my top SG songs, I love the lyrics), Say Hello 2 Heaven, Taree, Outshined, 4th of July, The Day I Tried to Live, Slaves and Bulldozers, and others.

Soundgarden etc etc etc lyrics only? that's probably what ya meant. Chris touches on childhood/lost childhood innocence in a lot of his tunes. Toy Box, Incessant Mace perhaps. I wonder how they came up with that title. Maybe one of these interviewers one day will ask Chris about the meanings behind the SG tunes he's penned.

Tears of the feeble Hands of the slaves Skin of the mothers Mouths of the babes Building the towers Belongs to the sky When the whole thing Comes crashing down Don't ask me why
Chris, perhaps at his best conveying his Nostradamus side. It has this mystical vibe that just takes me to another place like a GREAT SONG SHOULD. Limo Wreck shows Superunknown's brilliant, meticulously written songs that still after all these years stand out as masterpieces.

I also love the lyrics to Like Suicide. If I had to pick one line, it would be, "Safe outside my gilded cage with an ounce of pain, I wield a ton of rage." It's just brilliant.

Sollozzo, I concur & Like Suicide is another incomparable song by Chris.
My favorite lyrics from Like Suicide are.
Bit down on the bullet now I had a taste so sour I had to think of something sweet Love's like suicide

I love Soundgarden lyrics from Superunknown and Down On The Upside.
From Tighter And Tighter:
Remember this. Remember everything is just black Or burning sun.
And I hope it's a sweet ride Here for me tonight Cause I feel I'm going Feel I'm slowing down.

From Tighter And Tighter: Remember this. Remember everything is just black Or burning sun. And I hope it's a sweet ride Here for me tonight Cause I feel I'm going Feel I'm slowing down. I love Tighter and Tighter. I think it's told by someone about to jump out a window, maybe it's already decided. I never saw it as suicidal. Still don't. More like someone imagining the rush and taste of air, whether the way down would feel more like a ride than a fall--like a vertical motorcycle--if it were a choice. Wishing peace for the person left behind in bed. Away from the song, I've wondered if it might also be about trying to come to terms with death, OD or otherwise. I don't think specific lyrics necessarily matter. Even to the writer. The best writer opens a door and the most willing audience steps through it. Maybe they meet somewhere in the middle of their experiences and imagination. Or another place altogether. With SG, it's more about pictures and the feel than words to me. The sound and imagery of this song (and many others) are just hypnotic. Love me some music, but it's a really particular space I don't get to with other bands. When I really listen to SG, pulls me RIGHT in...

Shower in the dark day Clean sparks driving down Cool in the waterway Where the baptized drown Naked in the cold sun Breathing life like fire Thought I was the only one But that was just a lie
I always loved the general apocalyptic imagery of 4th July...there are so many...

I was always aware that death was a common theme in his songs, but now it seems like every lyric is about it.
The Last Remaining Light has always been one of my favs but I just can't listen to it now.

from Original Fire, Audioslave 🔥
With a pen in one hand, taking a stand, drugged on kerosene
Eighty-four and five would find us something to believe
Right or wrong with dirty hands on wires, singing songs in dischord choirs...
Can't explain it, it was something to see, can't explain something ever real...
The groove is addictive, but the lyrics are just as good. It's about how it felt starting out in Seattle, and still feeling inspired and lit up by music. Plain groovy fun.
On one of our 1st dates, my SO and I fought over the lyrics. He thought it was 'disco choirs' (!), and that ever real was 'ethereal'.
I think I called him an amateur...
