Went to see Chris Cornell.
Sound was awesome.
Highlights were "Can't Change Me", "All Night Thing", "Call Me A Dog", "When I'm Down", "Rusty Cage" (acoustic), "Hunger Strike", "Wooden Jesus", "River Of Deceit", "Seasons", "Higher Truth", "As Hope And Promise Fade".
I'm also disappointed I didn't realize he was playing Audioslave's "Wide Awake" until today. Usually I love it when I realize a band is playing a deeper track, but this one went over my head.
My favorite version of Hunger Strike live was still back in 2008, when Chester from Linkin Park came out and did the 2nd verse. That gives it the same dual singer feel as the studio version.
I never would have expected "Wooden Jesus" or Mad Season's "River Of Deceit".
Something like "I Am The Highway" is good of course, but I've heard that several times at his solo shows. Some of the highlights that I mentioned above were tracks that were either surprises, or don't always get played. Or one of his new ones.
I like his new solo album. I've only heard it once, but the format is good. Simple acoustic guitar melodies combined with his vocals.
I have his other solo albums too, and sometimes the melodies are either not that memorable, or kind of gimmicky / experimental. Or they feel like cheap hooks sometimes. I felt the same way on some of Ed Kowalczyk's solo work too.
But on this one, his vocals blend with the acoustic melodies nicely. In some ways, it might be even worse for radio singles, because there's not that big hooks, but as I said, the songs are well done and they kind of just flow.
