Hi! I've been a fan of Soundgarden and Chris since about 1991... I was devastated when Chris passed... I saw him in concert in Wilkes-Barre, PA, for his Higher Truth tour... Easily the best concert I have ever been to... Enough about me...
I've searched the interwebs for this, and found nothing, so I was wondering if you could help me out with this trivial question:
In "Pretty Noose," when he sings "... pretty hate..." right before the bridge ("And I don't care...") does anyone else but me hear chimes, like a doorbell? Like a quick "ding dong ding dong" I was wondering if it was just some harmonics from the guitars, or something purposely inserted, or something else...
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm sorry but I don't hear what you hear. I have really tried... But there's a lot happening instrumentally in those parts of the song so maybe your brain just interpret it that way?

It's like the rock gods put you on here to get me to listen to my favorite song (and to post on this forum). I haven't listened to Pretty Noose since before CC's death. I accidentally heard The Day I Tried to Live several weeks ago and so I was looping that for a while. Then a couple of weeks ago I accidentally listened to an Audioslave song, Show Me How to Live, and I didn't start looping it but have been tempted to.
So...with Pretty Noose, it's the first time I listened to a CC song on my own deliberately, so thanks for that. I hope I wake up tomorrow and play it over n over. I haven't been to a concert since the first festival he was supposed to play after Detroit, and I used to go to several concerts a year. I don't recognize myself some days, and I made it through Pretty Noose without tears because I was intent on listening for what you heard, but now my face is all wet. It's not only my fav SG song but also my fav song in the whole world, so thanks again for asking your question.
I didn't hear what you heard, by the way, but I will comment here that I really love the use of the symbols part of the drum kit. It's very interesting because they are used differently from what is typical. It kinda adds just the right amount of chaos to the being held captive (figurately) concept in the lyrics.

I just listened a couple of times, trying to peel back the multitude of layers, but can't quite hear what you are hearing. That said, it doesn't mean it isn't in there. SG's musical complexity gives us a chance to hear something new, beautiful and perplexing every time we play a song, and therin lies the dark beauty we all love so much.
