When Chris died, one of the many many distressing feelings I had was that I would never hear new music from him and my favourite band. I read somewhere that Chris himself expressed a similar thought when discussing the deaths of Andy Wood and Jeff Buckley. I listen to music for hours every day and Soundgarden make up a lot of what I hear. I've listened to so much SG/Chris stuff since he died but its tainted by the fact I know that's all I'll ever get. What other bands do you guys love? I need to find some new artists I can fall in love with.
If you guys wanna check some stuff out that you maybe don't listen to already, I've recently been getting into Bauhaus, Devo, Killing Joke, Void, Goggs, Slomatics, Big Business

As far as new artists go, I love Tame Impala. I remember seeing an interview a few years ago where Matt Cameron said he loves them, too. However, as creative and brilliant as Kevin Parker is, the music he makes has become very poppy, but if you love the Beatles and psychedelic rock, I'm sure you'd like what he does. Some of it is definitely mind-blowing to me. I also like Mac DeMarco, who also has a Beatles-y vibe, but he makes very laid back music and does not compare production-wise to Tame Impala. His chord progressions are very interesting, though, and despite his goofball disposition, he's a great musician. Another newer band I've gotten into is this band from Seattle called La Luz. They're this all-girl band I found on Bandcamp one day that make this kind of moody, Tarantino-esque surf psych rock. I don't know, man. There are quite a few acts out there that are promising, but none of them I've found make any of that dark, atmospheric awesomeness that Soundgarden at their best were capable of producing. Most of the musicians I've gotten into over the past few years aren't new. Recently, I've been getting into Peter Hammill from Van der Graaf Generator. From what you've listed as bands you're getting into, I get the idea that you like punk, so his album Nadir's Big Chance may be worth a listen for you. PH is very much a prog rocker, but that album is surprisingly very raw, and a few of the songs have a punk energy, like the title track, "Birthday Special," and "Nobody's Business."

Thanks, those are some great suggestions. I'm listening to Nadir's Big Chance as I type, 'Birthday special' and 'Nobody's business' are amazing. Getting a bit of a Bowie vibe which is always a good thing. Read a bit about Hammill and seems like he's been very prolific, surprised I'd never heard his stuff before.
Windhand is another great shout. I'd heard the name before and maybe a couple of tracks. Checked out Soma and it is great.
I hear elements that remind me of the darker side of Soundgarden in a few doom/sludge bands. One band I got into recently are called Tuskar. Pretty heavy with lots of feedback/atmospheric sounds. For any UK fans, they are playing Camden in February along with Slabdragger, Mammoth Weed Wizard B*stard and Slomatics. All worth checking out if you're into that stuff. I would definitely recommend 'Arianrhod' by Tuskar and 'Regress' by Slabdragger.

yes, other bands. But our band. This isn't a new tune, but check out one called Prehistoric dog, by Red Fang. That one's got some heavy.

Glad you liked it. I first heard him on the Robert Fripp album Exposure, which I had bought after learning of it through Peter Gabriel's second solo album. I heard his voice on the song "Disengage," and I thought he sounded like an insane Rob Halford. Anyway, then I eventually gave Van der Graaf Generator a listen and really liked them. It is strange that he's so unheard of because he's so talented. I guess a lot of people hate his voice. I think it's a great voice.
